About Portuguese Conjugation
Portuguese Verb Conjugation
Portuguese has one of the richest verb tense systems among Romance languages, with three conjugation groups (-ar, -er, -ir) and a total of over a dozen tense/mood combinations. The -ar group is by far the largest and most regular, containing the majority of Portuguese verbs.
Personal Infinitive: Portuguese (along with Galician) possesses a globally rare feature: the personal infinitive, which takes person endings. "Para eu saber" (for me to know) vs. "para eles saberem" (for them to know) — the infinitive itself conjugates.
Future Subjunctive: Another distinctive feature is the future subjunctive, used in conditional and temporal clauses about future events: "Quando você chegar" (when you arrive). Most other Romance languages have lost this tense entirely.
