About Romanian Conjugation
Romanian Verb Conjugation
Romanian verbs are organized into four conjugation groups based on their infinitive endings: I (-a), II (-ea), III (-e), and IV (-i/-î). As the only Romance language that developed in Eastern Europe, Romanian's verb system shows both Latin heritage and influences from Slavic, Greek, and Turkish contact.
Preserved Latin Features: Romanian retains the synthetic pluperfect indicative directly from Latin — a simple (non-compound) form that has disappeared from most other Romance languages. This gives Romanian an unusually rich set of simple tenses.
The Subjunctive with "să": Rather than having distinct subjunctive conjugation forms, Romanian forms the subjunctive with the particle "să" followed by an indicative-like conjugated verb. This construction is used extensively — far more than subjunctive forms in French or Spanish.
