Ŝanco is used for both a possibility (chance that something will happen) and an opportunity (a situation that allows you to do something). Common collocations: 'havi ŝancon' (to have a chance), 'doni ŝancon' (to give a chance), 'perdi ŝancon' (to lose an opportunity). For technical probability you might instead use 'probableco'.
