About Toki Ma

Toki Ma is a community-driven expansion of Sonja Lang's Toki Pona that emerged around 2020. While Toki Pona intentionally limits itself to ~120 words, some speakers felt the need for additional vocabulary to discuss modern topics without lengthy circumlocutions. Toki Ma adds new root words and grammatical features while attempting to preserve Toki Pona's minimalist philosophy and easy learnability. It represents an interesting case study in how constructed language communities fork and evolve, similar to how Ido emerged from Esperanto.
