About Viossa

Viossa is a unique pidgin constructed language that emerged in 2014 from an experiment in the conlanging community. Participants each spoke a different natural language — Norwegian, Finnish, Greek, Swiss German, and others — and were forced to communicate without a shared common language. Over time, a pidgin naturally developed — Viossa — combining elements from the participants' native languages and evolving through actual use. It is one of the few constructed languages that developed through genuine language contact rather than deliberate design. Viossa continues to evolve as new speakers join the community, making it a living laboratory for studying pidginization and creolization.
