Latin
Latin, an Italic language, was spoken in Ancient Rome and its empire. It is the forebear of the Romance languages and has influenced many other languages, including English. Latin literature includes works by Virgil, Cicero, and Ovid. The language is still used in academia, legal fields, and the Roman Catholic Church.
